Bronte Swimmers by Rachel Rae - I always thought landscapes were timeless however after exhibiting this painting at The Other Art Fair I was told a story of the recent disappearance of one of the photographic installations on the pumphouse. He correctly gu essed that I had painted it recently because I only included one of the artworks that celebrate the achievements of our female olympians and their connection to Bronte Baths.
Fanny Durack was the first woman to win a gold medal in swimming in 1912 in the 100 meters
Mina Wylie learned to swim at Bronte and one a silver medal at Stockholm Olympics for the 100 meters freestyle.
Evelyn Whillier represented Australia at the Berlin Olympics in 1938 and taught generations of Bronte children to swim at the pool.
The missing artwork also features Alick Whickman who's believed to be the first person in the world to swim the Australian Crawl Competitively at the Bronte Ocean Pool in 1901.
Can you solve the mystery of the missing artwork?
